Spring 2018

Do not follow Google Earth from Ciudad Insurgentes to Scorpion Bay. It will direct you past the Las Barrancas turn off  toward La Purisima, across the arroyo and onto 16 miles of dirt road. You will arrive eventually, but some get stuck or were unnecessarily delayed. To stay on pavement, take the turn off to La Barrancas. Follow the signs to San Juanico.

The Cantina beside the house is open serving food and drinks 7:30 AM to 9:30 PM daily. The new dining palapa is in place where the dining tent once stood.

Thursday, May 10th is Mother's Day in Mexico. In San Juanico, this holiday is more important than others. There is a party in town where mothers are honored and gifts and prizes are given. The Cantina is closed on Mother's Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The bathhouse has been renovated with exterior paint and a new palapa roof. Inside are new mirrors, sinks, faucets, toilet stall doors and toilet seats. After twenty years of trucking water, the campground is now connected to municipal water. Water conservation is still necessary and important.

Solar Panels were installed in the winter of 2016 and the drone of the diesel generator is mostly absent.

Roads After Hurricane Newton

From a recent arrival ....

September 10, We made it to San Juanico. We tried the North Road twice with no success. We took the high road with no success. There were many wash outs. We ended up staying the night at Rice and Beans. We left this morning and drove the south road from San Ignacio. It was a long day. The work around at La Purisima was sketchy at best and we needed 4wd. There is a lot of road damage from El Rosario to Loreto - more than the news let on. Glad to be here.

East Road!

From August 26th, 2016

I took the East Road from (Rosarito, north of) Loreto. It was rough but easily enough passable.  I think I took a slight wrong turn and had one spot where I needed four wheel drive.

I took the south road out, which is in very good condition.  It only took four hours to get to Loreto.

People who took the north road said they had no problems.

We had a great time.  We miss the old cantina, but the food is still great.

And the waves......
